Role
Supporting the General Manager and working closely with the team, the Workshop Manager is responsible for the operation of a workshop in terms of production, quality, delivery, technical and safety whilst respecting the defined goals. Consistently promoting high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the production team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.
The Workshop Manager has several core areas of responsibility:
1. Production
a. Support the General Manager with any planning issues within the workshop
b. Manage production of required parts in collaboration with the General Manager
c. Arrange maintenance work and equipment purchases i.e. tools etc.
d. Ensure production handovers are effective if operating shift patterns
e. Support delivery of first off production parts
f. Work with the Prototype team when prototypes are required and advise as needed
g. Maintain a high-quality service by establishing and enforcing company standards
h. Create workshop best practise and ensure this is upheld
i. Renegotiation of timescales with Project Managers and General Manager
j. Manage product standards and implement quality control
k. Ensure production summary files on Teams are accurate and up to date
2. People Management
a. Identify and arrange resource requirements
b. Management of the workshop team and their workloads in accordance with the production schedule including:
i. Recruitment
ii. Induction
iii. Performance management, evaluation, KPI’s and reviews
iv. Identify individual and team training and development needs
vi. Train team members and supervisors
ii. Record and manage absence and holiday requests
viii. Manage disciplinaries and grievances
ix. Hold and report on monthly sub-team meetings
c. Arrange and contribute to team meetings
3. Lean Manufacturing
a. Ensure principles of 5S are applied to department
b. Deploy lean tools to monitor, report and improve on processes
4. Sustainability
a. Identify and implement reduction of waste and non-value-added process
5. Health and Safety
a. Ensure all staff have correct PPE
b. Roll out and enforce Health & Safety plans
c. Maintain the machine shop, ensuring all machines, tools and PPE are fit for purpose
Key Skills and Knowledge
5+ years of related industry experience
Strong communications skills
Experience in managing multiple jobs simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with ability to react quickly to changing circumstances.
Knowledge and experience with wood, plastics, injection moulding, extrusions and metal forming for manufacturability and their associated processes
Good Excel skills and knowledge of other Microsoft Office software
Passionate about work and success, energetic and engaging, assumes ownership of work
Flexible and able to self-manage time and schedules in a deadline driven environment
The ability to work in a logical, systematic manner

Salary: £35,000+ pa depending on skills and abilities that meet the job description.
